Just 6 seconds of video

ENID, Okla. — Six seconds of film is all it takes to have a chance to win prizes at the upcoming FLY Film Festival.

The three-day festival is hosting a “Pocket Films” competition, drawing inspiration from the Vine app for smartphones. The deadline for submitting to the contest is July 5.

Kelly Tompkins, Main Street Enid director, said she came up with the idea after learning about Vine. The videos are called pocket films because the only thing you need to make them fits in your pocket.

“It just popped into my head to add something that’s kind of current with an app that some people have been using,” Tompkins said.

Tompkins said she would like people to submit films from anywhere, but videos taken in downtown Enid will not require a submission fee. Otherwise, the fee is $10.

Videos should be uploaded through Vine or YouTube and then entered into the competition by providing the film’s URL at flyfilmfestival.org. Films must be six seconds or less.

“We’re looking for videos that are funny, thought-provoking or anything that seems a little innovative,” Tompkins said. “It could even be something that shows things that we see every day, but showing it in a different way.”

Individuals whose pocket films are accepted will receive free tickets to the festival’s award ceremony at 3 p.m. Aug. 3, where they can find out if their film has won the overall award.

Tompkins said the first day of the film festival coincides with First Friday, so there will be a lot of out-of-towners there, giving plenty of exposure to the “Pocket Films.”
