The search for next Enid city manager kicks off

ENID, Okla. — A search firm’s efforts to find Enid’s next city manager began earlier this week.

The PACE Group interviewed city commissioners on Monday and Tuesday at the city administration building, according to city of Enid spokesman Steve Kime.

“They’re just getting all of this (information) so they can put this profile together for the ideal candidate,” he said. “That way they will bring candidates to the city commission that meet the criteria that they’re looking for.”

The interviews were the first step in the search process, according to The PACE Group President John Lovorn.

“We’re a national executive search firm and we are honored to be selected to work in Enid again,” Lovorn said, adding that the firm has placed two people in Enid positions in the past.

The firm currently is writing a refined job description to submit to the commissioners in the next few weeks.

“We’re going to take our time and do it right, and we’re glad to be doing it. This is our tenth CEO search in Oklahoma,” he said.

Ward 5 Commissioner Tammy Wilson said the firm interviewed each commissioner individually.

The firm questioned Wilson on the qualities she thought a city manager should have, what challenges there are and about some of the goals the commissioners have, she said.

“And they interviewed us and just asked us some questions about us and what our interests and personalities were like, because they’re kind of going to be doing some matchmaking,” Wilson said. “I think they’re just trying to get a feel for each one of us, individually, so they would kind of know what to look for.”

Current City Manager Eric Benson announced plans last year to retire by the end of this year.
