Condition of Alva boy gets upgraded

ALVA, Okla. — An Alva boy hospitalized with a form of E. coli reportedly has been moved out of intensive care, after his condition was upgraded from critical to serious.

Connor Sneary’s mother, Ashlee Sneary, posted on a Facebook page that Connor’s condition was upgraded to serious and he was moved after nine days in the intensive care unit at OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Ashlee Sneary reported on The Power in Praying Communities — Alva, OK Facebook page that Connor continues to have kidney dialysis and has pneumonia, among some other health issues.

Alva community members have rallied in support of Connor by holding fundraisers and a blood drive.

The blood drive, held earlier this week, drew 90 donors. First Christian Church Associate Minister Sara Wilcox said another 23 people signed up to donate blood in Connor Sneary’s name at other locations.

According to Wilcox, just 84 donors were supposed to be accepted, but more were allowed to donate during the blood drive.

“We turned away a lot of people,” she said.

Other planned fundraisers include a softball tournament set for noon Sunday at Alva Rec Park. Tournament entry is $100 per team or $10 per individual.

The Connor Sneary Benefit Skeet Shoot will be 1:30 p.m. April 19 at Alva Gun Range. The event is a recommended donation of $20 per person.

A Love Fund also been set up at First Christian Church, where Sneary attends. Checks may be made out to First Christian Church and mailed to P.O. Box 144, Alva, OK 73717.
