Teens charged in Sept. 27 drive-by shooting arraigned

ENID, Okla. — Two Enid teens arrested last week in connection with a Sept. 27 shooting were charged Wednesday in Garfield County District Court.

Abelardo Mora, 16, and Destry Dean, 17, both were charged as youthful offenders with a felony count of assault and battery with a deadly or dangerous weapon by use of a vehicle (drive-by shooting).

Being charged as youthful offenders means Mora and Dean will face the charges as an adult defendant would.

The charges appeared online Wednesday on Oklahoma State Court Network, but no documents related to the charges were available to the public.

The two are expected to be arraigned on the charges this morning.

Police received a call at 8:31 p.m. Sept. 27 reporting a shooting. The four victims were driving a small, white four-door car, and the suspects were driving a large, light-colored SUV.

Police learned there was a verbal confrontation between people in the vehicles that began at D. Bruce Selby Stadium. Both vehicles traveled 10 blocks to the 400 block of South Jefferson, where multiple shots were fired from the SUV. No one was injured.

Mora and Dean were taken into custody about 9 p.m. Oct. 1 on complaints related to the shooting, Sgt. Bryan Hart said following the arrest.

Information received by Detective Tim Doyle indicated Dean was involved in the shooting. Mora was identified by the victims and witnesses as one of the shooters.

Police received further information the two would be in the 1000 block of North Independence on Oct. 1. Detectives went to the location and took the two into custody.

The teens were interviewed at the police station and both indicated they were involved in the shooting, Hart said.
