Seiling woman faces prison, fine for altering prescription

ENID, Okla. — A 30-year-old Seiling woman is facing a $10,000 fine or up to 10 years imprisonment for altering a prescription.

April Dawn Farmer appeared Thursday in district court via video from the Garfield County Detention Facility.

Farmer was charged last year with a single felony count of obtaining a controlled dangerous substance by fraud, which is punishable by the fine and/or the time in prison.

According to an affidavit filed in her case, on July 13, 2013, Enid Police Department officers were sent to the pharmacy at Walmart.

Officers found a woman, identified as Farmer, had changed the number of refills on a prescription prior to giving it to the pharmacy.

The pharmacist told police he was notified by an employee about the prescription, which she said did not look right. The pharmacist told police the prescription said “RF0” or “Refills 0” and the refill block was circled with a numeral two, according to the affidavit.

The prescription was from Fairview Regional Medical Center, and the pharmacist said he called to confirm the prescription. He said he was told to call police and the medical center would fax a copy of the prescription to him.

The pharmacist gave Officer James McFadden a copy of the fax and the original prescription. The prescriptions were for 12 Valium and 20 Loritab with no refills.

Officer Thomas Rhine found Farmer and two others walking away from the pharmacy.

McFadden spoke with Farmer away from the two others and asked about the prescription. Farmer told McFadden she did not know what had happened.

McFadden asked her again about the number two being circled and she said her child had circled the two. She said it must have been her child and went on to say he was in the habit of circling stuff, according to the affidavit.

McFadden spoke with a man who was with Farmer and he said Farmer said she had circled the two after police had arrived, according to the affidavit. He said he did not know about it until officers arrived.

McFadden spoke with Farmer a second time, telling her what the man had told him.

Farmer then admitted she circled the number two but did not know why, according to the affidavit. She said the man and woman with her did not know what she had done and she was just being stupid.

McFadden asked Farmer about lying to him and she said she knew she had made a mistake and did not want to get into trouble, according to the affidavit.

Farmer is being held in lieu of $10,000 bond.
