Big Red competition makes for tasty battle

WAURIKA — Registration is still being taken for the 15th Big Red Chili Cook-Off, which will be held Thursday, as part of the Jefferson County Junior Livestock Show.

The Big Red Cook-Off features three divisions — youth, individual and business — with winners of each of the divisions being pitted against one another in the final judging that selects the Big Red Chili Bowl award as the overall winner.

Participants in the chili competition should prepare enough chili to feed 10 people. Entries must be at the fairgrounds building by 4:30 p.m. today.

Coinciding with the Junior Livestock Show, the cook-off begins with judging at 5 p.m. Following the judging and awards ceremony, a chili dinner hosted by the sponsoring group, GFWC Sorosis Club of Waurika, will be held until 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the dinner, which includes chili, crackers, tea and dessert, are $5 for adults and $3 for youth 3 to 8 years of age. Advance tickets are available from Rinda Griffin at Bartling Insurance in Waurika.

Proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Waurika Public Library and other local Sorosis project.

For information, contact Griffin at 580-313-0105.
