Second man arraigned on 1st-degree murder charge

ENID, Okla. — The second man charged in connection with the death of an Enid man last year was arraigned Thursday on a count of first-degree murder.

Anthony Brown Jr. appeared before Special District Judge Brian Lovell on the capital offense.

Brown was charged last week in connection to the murder of 24-year-old Heath Crites on Dec. 22, 2012. Brown faces life in prison, life in prison without parole or death, if convicted.

According to court documents filed in the case, Enid Police Department investigators spoke with a confidential informant who had contact with Brown.

While speaking with Brown this summer, the informant said the subject of the Heath Crites homicide came up, according to the affidavit. The informant said Brown began to speak about a robbery he planned with Ronnie Fuston, also charged with Crites’ murder.

The informant said Brown told him he and Fuston went to the front door of Crites’ residence, knocked and Crites opened the door. The informant said Brown and Fuston shot Crites, then Brown went into the residence looking for items to take, according to the affidavit.

The informant said Brown told him after searching the house that Fuston said Crites could not be left alive, according to the affidavit. The informant said Brown told him Fuston shot Crites and they left the residence together.

According to the affidavit, the informant was able to provide details not referred to in this affidavit or others in the case.

Fuston was charged in March with Crites’ death, making his initial appearance in the case Oct. 17. He is set for a preliminary hearing Feb. 25, 2014.

Lovell ordered Brown to return to court for a bond appearance Jan. 6, 2014, and set bail at $500,000.
