— Madie B. Howard, 76, of Indianola, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at her residence.

Family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m., today at Bishop Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Revs. Heath Eldridge, Daniel Morrison, Brent Jarrett, Fred Morrison and Jamie Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will follow at Featherston Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

She was born June 6, 1938, in Crowder, the daughter of George Washington and Susie Newberry Breckenridge. She graduated from Crowder High School. She married Robert Howard Jr. on Nov. 15, 1957, in Stigler, and they made their home in the Ashcreek/Elm point area.

She worked as a seamstress for Elsing’s Clothing Manufacturing before she began her career as a correctional officer at Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester.

She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Canadian Shores Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by Hayden Howard, of  Stigler; daughters, Lynn Eldridge, and husband, Steve, of Indianola, Darlene Hancock of North Carolina; sisters, Hazel Wood, of Grove, Edith Larkin, of Rogersville, Missouri; grandchildren, Crystal Howard, Wayne Howard, Justin Howard, Seth Eldridge, Heath Eldridge, and wife, Julie and Amanda DeGraffenried; great-grandchild, Josiah Eldridge; sisters-in-law, Betty (Strain) Conteras, Jo (Strain) Green; caregivers, Brenda Stalter, Cindy Barkley, Kathy Norman, Shelly Morrison, Charlie Snell, Jessica Barlow, Janet Crossland and Rose Gibbons, Nurses of Oklahoma Solutions, Mays Home Health Care and Heartland Hospice; Melissa, Sonya Micah, Crissy, Christi and Vicky; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Howard, Jr., Brothers, Lloyd Breckenridge and Clarence Breckenridge; sisters, Florence Eslick, Sylva Smith, Nola Tanner, Idabel Long, Dora Edwards, her daughter-in-law, Vicki Lynn Howard and  special friend and companion, Roger DeGraffenried

Pallbearers will be Seth Eldridge, Wayne Howard, Trey Carter, Caleb Black, Bill Black and Rocky Murdaugh.

Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Howard and Mike Baker, Men of Canadian Shores Free Will Baptist Church, Tannehill Free Will Baptist Church and her nephews.

The family requests memorials be made to Heartland Hospice, 210 E. Comanche, McAlester, OK 74501, in her memory.
