Jimmie A. ‘Jim’ Rose

McALESTER — Jimmie A. “Jim” Rose, 80, of McAlester, died Saturday, June 7, 2014, at his residence.

Family will receive visitors from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Funeral Service.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in McAlester with the Rev. Chris Symes and Dr. Matt Judkins officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

He was born May 8, 1934, in Wellington, Kansas, to Alfred Orine and Mary Etta Rose.

He attended school at Wellington. After graduation, he attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. He later joined the United States Air Force and served two years in Japan, then the rest of his tour in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After being honorably discharged, he graduated from Blair’s Business College in Colorado Springs.

He worked for Continental Air Lines for two years as an accountant. He then acquired H&R Block franchises in Salida and Canon City, Colorado. This was the beginning of a 42-year career with H&R Block. He worked in various positions within the H&R Block organization. He was Franchise Director in McAlester for 31 years. During this time, he recruited and trained people to operate H&R Block offices in 22 locations in southeastern Oklahoma. He was an Enrolled Agent with Internal Revenue Service since 1976.

He married Dorothy A. (Johnson) Malone on May 12, 2001.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of McAlester, a life member of the McAlester Sertoma Club and enjoyed raising Appaloosa Horses while living north of Bache.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ann Rose; sons, Mark Rose, of McAlester, Todd Rose, and wife, Susie, of Eufaula; grandchildren, Michal Ann Wesolowski, and husband, Kyle, of Tulsa, Noah and Nathanael, of McAlester, great-granddaughter, Josie Rose Wesolowski, of Tulsa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mary Rose, and first wife, Barbara Rose.    

Honorary pallbearers are Bill Scherman, Ralph Barrier, John Goodyear, Grant Grumbine, Steve Woodley, Don Ketchum and the members of the McAlester Sertoma Club.     

The family requests that memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, McAlester.
