Thomas Joseph Schanz

Thomas Joseph Schanz, 38, of Haileyville, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, in Alderson.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James Crowson officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Feb. 11, 1970, in Saint Paul, Minn., he was the son of Joseph Charles and Marianne (Kacmarcik) Schanz. He graduated High School in Topeka, Kan. He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service and worked as a licensed funeral director and embalmer in Cordell, Elk City, Duncan, and for Chaney’s Funeral Home in McAlester. He currently worked as a juvenile affairs probation officer for the State of Oklahoma. He also worked as a counselor for Jones Academy in Hartshorne. He worked at The Oaks as a counselor, and worked in the C.A.R.E. Program at Jackie Brannon Correctional Center.

He enjoyed watching movies, listening to music and spending time with his family. He was an avid Kansas Jayhawks basketball fan.

He was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include his daughter, Josephine “Josie” Wallis Schanz, of Krebs; mother, Marianne Schanz, McKinney, Texas; brother, Paul Schanz and wife, Vicki, of Wapanucka; sisters, Mary Jo Johnson, McKinney, Texas, and Aimee Stobbe and husband, Harold, of Weatherford.

Also, nieces and nephews, Nick, Sadie, Joey, Grace, Kim and Matt Sumner, Heather and Cory Reedy, Tony Stobbe, and Andrea and Tyler Wenzel, and other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Charles Schanz.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Johnson, Mary Jo Johnson, Tony Stobbe, Harold Stobbe, Paul Schanz and Joey Schanz.

Honorary pallbearer will be Anthony “ Buddy” Woods.

    Alyce Yvonne Knight Lerblance was born on November 21, 1923, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, to Fred C. and Letha Mae Knight.  She was the fourth of seven children born to Fred and Letha Knight.  Alyce grew up in Wilburton and graduated with the class of 1941 and was a graduate of Eastern State A & M in Wilburton.

    Heaven opened its gates for Bette Jo Williams, 84, on Saturday, July 19, 2014, following a brief illness with pancreatic cancer. Bette lived in McAlester, OK, for 60 years. She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
