Thomas James ‘Tommy’ Coberly

Thomas James “Tommy” Coberly, 38, of McAlester, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at Hartshorne.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Pastor Jack Crawford officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

Pallbearers include Aaron Tarver, Chad Womack, Jay Gragg, Tracy Wilcox, Terry Barton and Jimmy Beasley.

Honorary pallbearers include Ian Grimes, Nathan Steidley and Charles Strode.

Born July 30, 1969, in McAlester, to James Roy and Barbara Ann Coberly, he attended Savanna school for 12 years. He was active in football, basketball and excelled in baseball. After school, he joined the National Guard in 1988. He was stationed in North Carolina, served his country for two years and returned to McAlester after his discharge.

He began working in the oilfield for Pool where he gained experience. He then went to work for Parker Drilling, where he began to travel to Kazahkistan and work. After several years of traveling for work, he came home and went to work for B.T.I.

He was a Christian, enjoyed Harley-Davidson motorcycles and was an active member of Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.).

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda “Jodi” Coberly, of the home; children, Whitney Kaylee Shantell Tarver Coberly, Aaron Tarver (mother Kay Coberly), Cody Coberly, Samatha Wigginton (mother Tracy Coberly), Maverick Thacher, Journey Thacher and Jodi Thacher, (mother Jodi Coberly), all of McAlester.

Also, father, James R. Coberly, of Blocker; mother, Barbara Hammers and husband, Jessie, of Hartshorne; paternal grandmother, Audrey Coberly, of McAlester; maternal grandmother, Opal Sharp, of Kiowa.

And, sister and special friend, Jamie Coberly, of Blocker; special niece and nephews, Samantha Coberly Barton and Cory Wilson; sister, Serana Coberly, of Oklahoma City; brothers, Brian Coberly and family, of Tulsa, Chris Coberly and family of Oklahoma City, C.J. Coberly, of Oklahoma city; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and his adopted sons, James Ian Grimes, Chad Womack, Jay Gragg, Nathan Steidley, Kenny Womack.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Coberly; paternal grandfather, Roy Coberly; maternal grandfather, John Sharp; a nephew, Trevor Coberly, and his best friend “Moon.”
