Kenneth Grant Anderson

Kenneth Grant Anderson, 78, of Daisy, died Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at his home from multiple myloma.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at McGee Valley Baptist Church in Daisy with Pastors Bob Muncy, Frank Couch and Don Russell officiating. Burial will be at the Mountain Home Cemetery in Daisy under the direction of the Atoka Funeral Home.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. this evening.

Born Nov. 20, 1928, at Hominy, he was the son of Bethel and Gertie Lee (Elliot) Anderson. He graduated from Buffalo Valley High School in 1947. He was a veteran serving in the United States Navy from 1947-1951 as a marksman. He graduated from Southeastern State College in 1954, with a Bachelors of Science in Education, where he also had an outstanding career as a noted athlete in both football and basketball for the Southeastern Savages. He then attended the University of Oklahoma and received his Master’s in Educational Administration.

He began his educational career as a teacher and coach and was later a superintendent of schools. He worked for the Oklahoma State Department of Corrections as a counselor, psychologist and medical administrator, retiring in 1993.

He married Ruthie Mae Bacon on Aug. 11, 1956, in Talihina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bethel and Gertie Anderson; three brothers, Everet Anderson, Tommy Anderson and Delta Anderson, and three sisters, Ethel Escue, Lois Glenn and Evelyn Toumbs.

Survivors include his wife, Ruthie Anderson, of Daisy; two daughters, Kathy Marie Anderson, of Daisy, Kenni Sue Anderson Lane and husband, Rick, of Madill; two grandsons, Jedidiah Franklin Lane, of Richardson, Texas, Micah Grant Lane, of Durant; three brothers, Edwin Anderson and wife, Joye, of Spiro, Jerry Anderson and wife, Vernie, of Mansfield, Texas, Bill Anderson, of Ponca City, and several nephews, nieces and special nurses, RN Brenda Wood and RN Cindy Tharp, and many friends.

Honorary pallbearers include Nathan Self, Bennie Wyrick, C.H. Isom, all of Daisy, J.C. Gadberry, Bill Potts, of Stringtown, Eugene Brown, Leon McCormick, Chester Cooley, all of Buffalo Valley and Harry Fitzgerald, of Talihina.

Pallbearers include his nephews, Blake Anderson, of Keller, Texas, Joe Anderson, of Tulsa, Brian Anderson, of Edmond, Gary Anderson, of Mansfield, Texas, Charlie Anderson, of Mansfield, Texas, Jim Toumbs, of Wilburton and Jess Youngblood, of Choctaw.
