Joseph Dean Sumpter, 67, of McAlester, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at McAlester Regional Health Center.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Brumley-Mills Chapel, in McAlester, with Brothers Ron Meyer, Bob Hess and David Gore officiating. Burial will follow at Sans Bois Cemetery near Kinta.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.
He was born Sept. 24, 1946 in Hartshorne to Charles Buford and Dorothy Sylvia (Butler) Sumpter. He served in the Army National Guard. He married Brenda Smith on Feb. 29, 2012, in McAlester. He enjoyed his family, watching football and going to church.
He was a member of the Gospel Assembly in McAlester.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Sumpter; children, Dorothy Thomason, and husband, Edward, of Haileyville, Janetta Allen, of Haileyville, and Patrick Sumpter, of Hartshorne; grandchildren, Johnny Sumpter, Edward Coleman, Charles Sumpter and Jerry Allen; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Clyde Sumpter, of Gowen; sisters, Dixie Ezekiel, of Adamson, and Juanita Haggard of Haileyville, and special aunts, Mary Davidson, of Tahlequah, and Gloria Casas, of Rose.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Buford and Dorothy Sylvia (Butler) Sumpter; his first wife and mother of his children, Patricia Ann Sumpter; two infant sons, and two brothers, Jackie Ray Sumpter and Roger Carl Sumpter.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Thomason, Johnny Sumpter, Edward Coleman, Ron Meyer, Bob Hess, David Gore and Richard Miller.
