McALESTER — Tracy Eilene Bridges, 52, of McAlester,  died Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at her residence, in McAlester, Oklahoma.

The family will receive visitors from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Bishop Funeral Service.

Memorial Service will be at 9:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 1501 S. 13th St. with Dr. Charles Neff, Rev. Chris Symes, Rev. Scott A. Bridges officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, in McAlester, OK under direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born to Dr. Delta Walker Bridges, Jr. and Joyce Arlene (McCarter) Bridges on September 2, 1960 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Tracy graduated from McAlester High School in 1978.  She attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in counseling from East Central University at Ada in 1981.  During 2001 to 2003 she completed a Master’s Degree in Special Education with concentration and emphasis on mental health disorders in children. She was honored due to her research and report involving Antistimulant versus Stimulant medications in children diagnosed with ADD and ADHD at the 2002 American Teachers Association meeting at the University of Oklahoma. Too she received certification as a social service and activity coordinator by the State of Oklahoma.

She worked as a counselor and social services worker for the McAlester Youth Shelter, and then as a social services worker for the Assisted Living Center and Sun City Lodge. She was presently employed as a counselor for Eastern Sky PC. She was kind, gracious and caring not only for her clients, but when she saw anyone who had a need.

She was involved for fifteen years in fund raising and programs to promote health care and children activities as follows: American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Breast Cancer Awareness, American Red Cross Blood Drives, Pittsburg County Health Fair, Special Olympics,  McAlester Literary Council, McAlester Pom Squad and was a member of the Fortnightly Casual Gourmet Club.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and periodically served as a volunteer in church summer programs and was director of the church nursery for three years. She was a member of a Bible Study and Prayer Group.

Tracy was an excellent swimmer and runner and during her high school and college years was a life guard and instructor for the City of McAlester.  She enjoyed music and played the piano, violin and flute. She was a member of the high school band and orchestra. She took her love of cooking and created a catering business, Gourmet to Go.

She is survived by: Daughters: Katie Elizabeth Sams, of Edmond, Oklahoma, Sarah Anna Sams, of McAlester, Oklahoma; Parents, Dr. Delta W. and Joyce Bridges, of McAlester, Oklahoma; Brothers, Rev. Scott Allen Bridges and wife, Julie, of College Park, Maryland, Rev. Paul McCarter Bridges and wife, Margann, of Grassvalley, California; Brian Walker Bridges, of Kansas City, Mo.; Nieces and nephews: Emily Bridges, Jonathon Bridges, Hollie Bridges, Walker Bridges,  Amy Bridges, Jessica Bridges; Aunt, Francis Sanger and husband, Dunning, of Norman, Oklahoma; Cousins: Rev. Carter Sanger and wife, Rhonda, of Katie, Texas, Amy Horn and husband, Jeff, of Norman, Oklahoma, Della Kramedjian and husband, Chris, of Nashville, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Raymond “Pete” and Emma (Douthit) McCarter and paternal grandparents, Delta W. Bridges, Sr. and Thelma Bridges.

Pallbearers will be: Alfred Bullard, Buster Cockrum, Larry Edwards, Mel Priddy, Staton Souther and Steve Woodley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Tracy to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund; 1501 S. 13th St., McAlester, OK 74501.
