James H. Anderson

McALESTER — James H. Anderson, 92, of Alvin, Texas, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2013, at Clear Lake Regional Hospital in Clear Lake, Webster, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brumley-Mills Chapel. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1098 of McAlester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Nov. 25, 1920, in McAlester, he was the son of  L.S. and Kate (Doyal) Anderson. He grew up in Bugtussle, what is now Juniper Point, then graduated from Durant High School in 1938.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the South Pacific.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Southeastern State College in Durant then did his graduate work and doctoral work at the University of Oklahoma.

He had a long career in education as a teacher and administrator and served as Pittsburg County Schools Superintendent for a number of years.

He married Jean Edmunds on April 5, 1947, in Denison, Texas.

He was a 65-year member (32 degree) of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., USA.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James Edmund and Judy Anderson, Alvin, Texas; one daughter, Sue Anderson, Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Eli Anderson, Shayne Blaylock and Erin Fell, and Rachel Gallant, and great-grandchildren, Jayce Gallant, Ranyiah Gallant and Tre Gallant.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a son, Stephen Kent Anderson, and all of his siblings.
