Johnny James Henson, 85, formerly of McAlester, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, in Spring Hill, Kan.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 6 p.m. today at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Max Boggs officiating. Burial will be at Arpelar Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born Dec. 19, 1927, in Arpelar, he was the son of Sam and Flora (Dement) Henson. He attended school in Savanna.
He married Ethel “Irene” Barnes on July 26, 1959, in New Orleans, La. He worked as a pastor, minister and teacher in the central Alexandria, La. area. He later worked as carpenter. He retired in 1988 before relocating to the McAlester area.
He was of the Pentecostal faith.
He enjoyed tinkering with things and loved gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Henson, Olathe, Kan.; daughter, Paula Martin and Jesse James, Olathe; granddaughters, Jessica Sky Martin, Oxford, Mich., and Jenna Michelle Martin, Olathe; great-granddaughter, Paisley Ann Hardesty; brother, Emmitt Dewayne Henson, of McAlester, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Flora (Dement) Henson; brothers, Leonard and Harvey Henson, and sisters, Clara Holt, Flossie Boggs, Alice Dollar, Bessie Brister and Faye Akins.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Holden, Nick Arnold, Nicholas Arnold, Keith Comley, Jesse James and Lonnie Boggs.
