J.D. Fite

McALESTER — J.D. Fite, 76, of Hartshorne, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at his home.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sardis Community Center with the Rev. Scott Horstman and Doug Nixon officiating. Burial will be at Sardis Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne.

Born June 21, 1937, in Damon Valley, he was the son of Edward Earl and Lillian Dorothy (Rains) Fite. He grew up and lived in the Sardis and Clayton areas most of his life, except for a time in Wister. He had been in Hartshorne for a short time.

He owned and operated the Kiamichi Valley Propane Company from 1968 to 1987, when he sold the business. Soon after, he started a new propane business in Wister and operated it for about 10 years.

After his “retirement”, he began working as a pumper and lease operator on area gas wells.

His real joy was his ranch work. He enjoyed working with cattle, buying, selling and trading, and the ranching life in general. He married Linda Johnson on May 1, 1976, in Durant.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Fite, of Wister; children, Janet Fite, of Hartshorne, Justin Fite, of Tuskahoma, Jodi Vega and husband, Tony, of Hartshorne, Jason Fite and wife, Angela, of Hartshorne, Jarod Fite and wife, KayLynn, of Hartshorne, and Steven Fite and wife, Joanna, of Wilburton.

Also, stepsons, Buddy Terry and wife, Marcie, of Wister, and James Crinshaw and wife, Kristen, of  Red Oak; sister, Nadine Isom and husband, Copas, of Hartshorne; nine grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Dorothy Fite, and grandparents, Dave and Sarah Rains, and Jasper and Clara Fite.

His children will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Johnson, Byron Bohanon, Melvin Sturgeon, Doug Huddelston, Dale Coker, Robby Bruce, Buddy Wilson, Vic Doyle, Rick Ludlow, Don King, Don Huddelston, Earl Flat, Dale Huddelston, Tommy Joe Ayers, Tobe Anderson, Steve Henry, Arthur Bronson, Dink Henry, Jick Norris, Jeff Brown and Felbert James.

Memorials may be made to Sardis Cemetery.

    Alyce Yvonne Knight Lerblance was born on November 21, 1923, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, to Fred C. and Letha Mae Knight.  She was the fourth of seven children born to Fred and Letha Knight.  Alyce grew up in Wilburton and graduated with the class of 1941 and was a graduate of Eastern State A & M in Wilburton.

She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
