Robert E. “Bob” Countz

McALESTER — Robert E. “Bob” Countz, 90, of McAlester, died Thursday, March 27, 2014, in McAlester following a brief illness.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Jody Domingue officiating. Burial  followed at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

He was born Nov. 24, 1923, in Russellville, Ark., to Buena Rue “B.R.” Countz and Stella Mae (Burnett) Countz. He was raised in Indianola where he attended Indianola School.

He later entered the U.S. Army at Fort Sill. During his service, he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kan., and served in the U.S. Army.

He married Irene Mae Bachman on Aug. 31, 1946, in Junction City, Kan. After he received his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Pittsburg County for a short time before moving to Martinez, Calif., where he began working for Shell Oil Company as a truck driver. He retired in 1971, having worked for more than 24 years.

After his retirement, they moved to Indianola where he began working for Pittsburg County District No. 3 as a dump truck operator. After having worked for 17 years for Pittsburg County, he began driving a truck for Conner Enterprises and later Ray Brewer Trucking. He finally retired at 80 years old.

He enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends of District No. 3 at the yearly fishing and camping trip at Camp Creek.

He is survived by brothers-in-law and spouses Joe and Judy Bachman, and Tim and Bubbs Bachman, of Roanoke, Ill.; sisters-in-law and spouses Brownie and Fred Schramm, and Margaret Eilers, of Washington, Ill., Sylvia and Pete Mica, and Blanche and Emmitt Behems, of Eureka, Ill., and Mary Ann and Ed Oltman, of Roanoke, Ill.; nephew Taylor Countz, and wife, Barbara, of Indianola; nieces, Deanna Adams, and husband, John, and Sue Countz, of McAlester; 31 more nieces and nephews in Illinois; cousins Gloria Countz, Sheila West and Butch Countz, all of Idaho; and friends Dan and Mary Martin, of McAlester.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene Mae (Bachman) Countz, in 2007; mother-in-law and father in-law, Andrew and Mary Bachman; brother and sister-in-law, James and Billie (Sanders) Countz; brothers-in-law, Lyle Bachman and Frank Bachman; sister-in-law, Grace McCormick, and great-nephew, Robert Michael Countz.

Pallbearers will be Chris Countz, Jim Countz, Taylor Countz, Wesley Countz, Josh Countz and Dan Martin

Honorary pallbearers will be John Adams, David Adams, Marlin Landry, Glen Ferguson, Oben Weeks, Ray Brewer and Hulan Edwards.

She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
