John Garland Clemens, Sr., 88, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Bache, died Friday, March 7, 2014, in Las Vegas, Nev.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Brumley-Mills Chapel in Hartshorne with Steve Mass officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne.
He was born Feb. 10, 1926, in Elmore City to Joseph and Lillie Mae (Bost) Clemens. He grew up in the Elmore City area and married Geneva M. Stevens on Feb. 27, 1948, in Fort Smith, Ark. They left Oklahoma in 1958, and lived in many different places in the southwest and around the world, returning to Hartshorne in 1975. He lived in Bache until April 2013 when he moved to Las Vegas with his daughter, Sharon.
He worked in the oil field all of his life, starting as a roughneck and retiring as an operations superintendent of the Global Marine Drilling Company, in Los Angeles, Calif. During his career, he worked in Singapore, western Australia and New Zealand.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Hartshorne and enjoyed fishing, playing golf and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Beebe, of Las Vegas, Nev.; son, John Clemens, Jr. and fiancé, Teri Manning, of Bache; four grandchildren, Lori Jo Beebe, of Las Vegas, Nev., Jason and Melissa Beebe, of Las Vegas, Nev., John Clemens III, of Bache, and Amanda Clemens, of McAlester; two great-grandchildren, Lyndsie Beebe of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jared Beebe, of Las Vegas, Nev., and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Geneva; daughter, Susan Munson, and her husband, Jon; son-in-law, David Beebe; and two sisters, Mae Pearl Cunnius Childress and Jo Yuvonne Clemens.
