Mary Frances Deerinwater

McALESTER — Mary Frances Deerinwater, 87, of McAlester, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at a local nursing home.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. James Crowson officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born Aug. 10, 1926, in Vivian, she was the daughter of George Washington McCombs and Bessie McCombs. She graduated from high school and then attended Bacone College.

She lived in Crowder and McAlester and, then while her husband was serving military duty in Korea, she lived in Hanna until returning to McAlester.

She worked as a seamstress and then payroll clerk for Elsing Manufacturing Company for 20 years and then for Seamprufe another 20 years, retiring in 2009.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of McAlester for many years, a member of Order of the Eastern Star and was a Gold Star Mother due to the death of her eldest son, while serving in the United States Army on Jan. 25, 1969, in Vietnam.

Survivors include a son, George Deerinwater and wife, Celeste, Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandsons, Bruce Deerinwater, of Rattan, Jeffrey Deerinwater, and wife Erica, Albuquerque, and Ryan Deerinwater and wife, Amy, Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Clayton Pinson, of Canadian, and Riley and Cole Deerinwater, Albuquerque; great-great-grandson, Chasyn Pinson, of Canadian; sister, Bessie Lou Pope, of Tulsa, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bessie McCombs; a son. Bruce Edward Deerinwater; sisters, Elizabeth, Vivian, Mildred and Evelyn. and a brother, George.
