McALESTER — Lorene Auston, 92, of McAlester, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at her home.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Dr. Tim Russell officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born Jan. 16, 1922, in  Indianola, she was the daughter of A.D. “Bud” and Luce Jane (Cooksey) Prescott. She lived her entire life in Pittsburg County.

She was a Christian and taught Sunday School class at Indianola Baptist Church, Hillcrest Baptist Church and, at the time of her death, she was a member of First Baptist Church of McAlester. She took great pride in being a worker for the Children’s Bus Ministry for several years.

She attended school at Indianola.

She married Walter J. “Bill” Auston on April 14, 1941, in Crowder, and helped her husband in the used car business for years.

She enjoyed her family, sewing and making quilts and afghans for her children and grandchildren, bluegrass festivals and decorating her home for the holidays. Her husband preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1994.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Roberts and husband, John, and Sue Kindred, all of McAlester; grandchildren, Walt Roberts, Austin, Texas, Lana Summers, of Savanna, Jeffrey Painter and wife, Mellany, of McAlester, and Joe Painter and wife, Molly, of Tannehill.

Also, great-grandchildren, Terra Summers, Denton, Texas, Zachary Summers, of Savanna, Cody Summers, of Savanna, Abbie Painter, of Ada, Anna Painter, of McAlester, and Jake Painter, Houston, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, W.D. Prescott; sister, Geraldine Weeks; brother, Dennis Prescott, and, son-in-law, Jim Kindred Jr.

Pallbearers will be John Roberts, Walt Roberts, Jeffrey Painter, Joe Painter, Jake Painter, Zach Summers and Cody Summers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lana Summers, Terra Summers, Abbie Painter, Anna Painter, Aaron Kilburn and Harmon Stokes and the Adult 9 Sunday School class.
