William “Chico” Spears, 64, of McAlester, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the McAlester Regional Health Center.
Per his request, there will be no formal service. His family will plan a private service in the future.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chaney Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.
He was born June 11, 1948, in McAlester, to Travis and Fannie (Perteet) Spears. He grew up in the McAlester area and graduated from Crowder High School. He was united in marriage to Betty Marie Benson on March 10, 1967, and they established their residence on the same family homestead where he was born.
He worked many years as a truck driver. When he wasn’t behind the wheel he enjoyed “piddling around.” This encompassed all sorts of things, such as: mowing, fishing, joking, teasing, buying junk, garage sale-ing and helping friends.
He is survived by his Wife of nearly 46 years, Betty Spears, of the home; a daughter, Kimberly Troussel and her husband, Chris, of McAlester; a grandson, John Troussel, of McAlester; and sisters, Lottie Turney and her husband, Bill, of McAlester, Margie Coxsey, of McAlester, and Ruth Ann Beck and her husband, Stan, of Carthage, Mo.
Also, brothers-in-law, Joe Benson and his wife, Kathy, of McAlester, Jay Benson and his wife, Wanda, of McAlester, Bo Benson and his wife, Marion, of McAlester; and nephews and nieces, Don Lawson and wife, Teresa, Todd Smith and wife, Sonya, David Smith and Eddie Gray, Tommie Hamilton and husband, Billy, Ricky Southard and wife, Rachel, Frankie Brewer and husband, Steve, all of McAlester.
He is also survived by numerous other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Travis and Fannie Spears; his son, Tracy Spears, and one sister, Beatrice Lawson.
