Zelma Dean (Daniel) Brecheen

McALESTER — Zelma Dean (Daniel) Brecheen, 83, of Coalgate, died Sunday, October 27, 2013, in McAlester.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Clarita United Methodist Church, in Clarita, with Pastor Lyle Shipley officiating. Burial will follow at Coalgate Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 26, 1930, to John and Hazel Charlotte (Brown) Daniel, at Olney.

She married Joe Palmer Brecheen on April 10, 1953, at Olney.

She attended school at Clarita and Olney. She received her master's degree in teaching from OklahomaState University.

She was the owner and operator of Brecheen Farm Equipment and Sporting Goods in Atoka for 33 years.

She was a member of Clarita United Methodist Church, was a coordinator for Retired Seniors Volunteer Program, a member of Retired Teachers, served as treasurer for Gen. Society, served on  the Fair Board and was involved in OSU County Extension, OHCE. She enjoyed working on her ranch and with her cattle.

She is survived by her daughter Barbara Gilbertson, and husband, Charley, of McAlester; sons, J. Zane Brecheen, and wife Teri E. of Olney, Dane Brecheen, and wife, Susan, of Olney; grandchildren, Travis Shane Brecheen, and wife, Tisha, of Olney, Joshua Chad Brecheen, and wife, Kacie of Olney, Ryan Heath Brecheen, of Olney, Barbara Danielle Brecheen, of Olney, Jay Dean Gilbertson, of McAlester, Francis Palmer Brecheen, of Olney; great-grandchildren, Boone Brecheen, Micah Ridenhour, Makayla Ridenhour, Colton Brecheen, Gunner Cash Brecheen; brother, Olene Daniel, and wife, Cathey of Olney; sisters, Alene Arnold and husband Harvey, of Farris, Phillis Smith, of Elk City; sister-in-law, Constance Daniel of Memphis, Tenn.; and numerous other relatives and many dear and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hazel Charlotte (Brown) Daniel; husband, Joe Palmer Brecheen; son, Joe Brecheen, Jr.; brother, J.W. Daniel; sisters-in-law, Margaret Ridley; Marjorie Droke; niece, Kay Battles; and nephew, Stacey Arnold.

Pallbearers are Travis Brecheen, Josh Brecheen, Ryan Brecheen, Danielle Brecheen, Jay Gilbertson, Frankie Brecheen.

Honorary pallbearers are Carol Denson, Gary Ridley, Edgar Collins, Ronal Collins, Doyle Nelson, Roy Campbell, Gary Winebaugh, Mike Daniel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Clarita United Methodist Church.

    Heaven opened its gates for Bette Jo Williams, 84, on Saturday, July 19, 2014, following a brief illness with pancreatic cancer. Bette lived in McAlester, OK, for 60 years. She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
