Ewell Erston Cassell

McALESTER — Ewell Erston Cassell, 80, formerly of McAlester, died Aug. 26, 2012, at Perpetual Succour Hospital in Cebu City, Philippines.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brumley-Mills Chapel. Graveside services will take place at a later date at Bradley Cemetery in Monroe County, W.Va. Military honors will be provided by Patriot Guard Riders and Texoma Honor Guard. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born May 22, 1932, in Warriormine, W.Va.. he was the son of Bert and Lilly Mae Cassell. He grew up there then lived in California where he worked for AC Transit as a supervisor, retiring after 20 years of service.

He then moved to McAlester where he lived for more than 20 years. He owned and operated Cassell Used Car lot for several years and was an agent for Shirley Donaldson’s Century 21.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Peggy and Gerrick Johnson, of McAlester, Debbie Cassell and Verdayne Lloyd, of McAlester, and Angie Cassell, Birmingham, Ala.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Daniel and Donna Cassell, of McAlester, and Eugene Cassell, Birmingham, Ala.

Also, three grandchildren, Dakotah Cassell, Jaiden Johnson and Jennah Johnson, all of McAlester; brother, Paul Cassell, Canebreak, W.Va., and a sister, Irene Stillner, Grundy, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandson, Craigery Benton Brumley-Cassell, and 11 siblings.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gerrick Johnson, Jaiden Johnson, Troy Stevens, Jared Rowe, Verdayne Lloyd and the Patriot Guard Riders.

    Alyce Yvonne Knight Lerblance was born on November 21, 1923, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, to Fred C. and Letha Mae Knight.  She was the fourth of seven children born to Fred and Letha Knight.  Alyce grew up in Wilburton and graduated with the class of 1941 and was a graduate of Eastern State A & M in Wilburton.

She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
