Lillie Fern Lewis, 89, of Ashland

McALESTER — Lillie Fern Lewis, 89, of Ashland, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

Family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home, McAlester.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Brumley-Mills Chapel, McAlester. The Rev. Jim Gantt will officiate.

Interment will follow at Ashland Cemetery.

Funeral services are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home, McAlester.

Born Dec. 29, 1923, in Indianola, she was the daughter of Thomas Andrew and Claudia M. (Everett) Williams.

She was a lifelong resident of Pittsburg County and married Harold Lewis on Sept. 26, 1941, in Indianola.

She enjoyed gardening, her cats and terrapins.

She was of the Baptist faith and was baptized in a creek two miles from Choate Prairie Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Doris Phillips, of Kiowa, Carolyn and Charles Roberson, of Lane, Linda and Ted Snider, of Cache, Jerry and Vicky Lewis, of Bedford, Ind., Karen and Jimmy Staggs, of Saginaw, Texas, and David Lewis of the home; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Christine Williams, of Oklahoma City; one brother-in-law, Ed Stephenson, and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Williams, Pat Williams, Lucille Williams, Mary Lewis and  Mary Jo Shepard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lewis; her parents; her son, Glen Lewis; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; six brothers, two sisters; and a son-in-law, Zay Phillips.

Active pallbearers will be Brad Lewis, Tim Snider, Zay Phillips II, Wade Labor,    Derick West and Brent Horne.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Hendricks, Pete Lane, Melvin Powell, Dewey Wimberly, Robert Davis, Austin Davis, Paul Davis and Donald Dunn.

    Heaven opened its gates for Bette Jo Williams, 84, on Saturday, July 19, 2014, following a brief illness with pancreatic cancer. Bette lived in McAlester, OK, for 60 years. She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
