Darren Keith Cleveland

McALESTER — Darren Keith Cleveland, 43, of McAlester, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, in Oklahoma City.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at East Star Baptist Church in McAlester. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunshine Cemetery in Holland, Texas with military honors. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Feb. 20, 1967, in Los Angeles, he was the son of Dorothy and Austin Cleveland.

His mother moved to Killeen, Texas and met and married James Utah Gray in 1968. They moved to McAlester in 1972, where he was reared. He completed his education at McAlester High School in 1986.

Shortly thereafter, he joined the United States Army in 1987. He served in the Panama Canal, Desert Storm, Korea and many other stateside locations. He was honorably discharged from the service as a disabled American veteran.

He returned to Oklahoma and completed his degree in computer science.

He was baptized at Mount Triumph Baptist Church as a child and later became a faithful member of East Star Baptist Church for several years.

He had spent many years battling cancer.

Survivors include his Dad, James Utah Gray; four sisters and brother-in-law, Pamela and John Dillon, St. Louis, Necolle Audu, Arlington, Texas, Tisha Cleveland, of Oklahoma City, and Tyisha Gray, of McAlester.

Also, four brothers, Michael Jackson, of McAlester, Austin Cleveland Jr., of McAlester, Christopher Gray, of Texas, and Gerald Green, of Oklahoma City.

And, three sons, Michael and Jarell White Cleveland and Schuller Pickens; two daughters, Dominic Cooper and Octavia Pickens; godmother, Louise Green.

And, three nephews, Michael and Alvin Frazier and Deon Audu; one niece Lameika Gray, and numerous aunts, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Gray, and father, Austin Cleveland.

    Alyce Yvonne Knight Lerblance was born on November 21, 1923, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, to Fred C. and Letha Mae Knight.  She was the fourth of seven children born to Fred and Letha Knight.  Alyce grew up in Wilburton and graduated with the class of 1941 and was a graduate of Eastern State A & M in Wilburton.
