James Mack Hamilton, 79, of McAlester

McALESTER — James Mack Hamilton, 79, of McAlester, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at a local nursing center.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Funeral Home in McAlester. Funeral services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. James Crowson officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

He was born to Blaine and Adah Hamilton on April 30, 1933, in Blanco. He graduated from Pittsburg High School with the class of 1951. He was an avid sports fan and played basketball and baseball in high school and independent baseball after high school. He married his childhood sweetheart, Polly Harrington, on May 20, 1950, and they had been married 62 years. Mack was a civil engineer by trade and worked for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the Oklahoma Highway Department.

Later, he was manager of the McAlester Ready Mix Cement Plant. During the oil boom of the 80s he worked as an inspector for Marshall Construction Company building pads for the gas wells. He also worked for the City of McAlester as an engineer. He retired as manager of Mid-Continent Ready Mix Plant.

He was a devoted family man and he loved his children and grandchildren. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 513 and enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He traveled all over Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas with his sons and grandsons going to rodeos. He was a faithful customer at Marilyn’s Cafe where he drank coffee with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Polly; his two sons, Danny and wife, Patricia, of Wardville, and Bill and his wife, Mary Nell, of McAlester; and one daughter, Susie Jeffries, and husband, Joe.

Four grandchildren, Bradley and wife Tina, Billy and wife Tommie, Kristin Collins and husband Josh, Nikki Stricklin and husband Logan; five great grandchildren, Halle Collins, Wayton Hamilton, and Piper, Landon, and Beckett Stricklin; six sisters-in-law, Josephine Hamilton, of Eufaula, Joyce Jones, of Tulare, Calif., Delois Harrington, of Upland, Calif., Bee Norris, of Broken Bow, Pam Schwarz, of Muskogee, and Nancy Harrington, of Kiowa; several nieces and nephews; special friends Shirley Blevins and Jim McLeod along with many others.

He was preceded in death by his parents Blaine and Adah Hamilton; two brothers, CB Hamilton and Taft Hamilton and wife Jessie; mother-in-law and father in-law, Bill and Myrtle Harrington; three brothers-in-law, Dean Harrington, Fibber Harrington and Riley Jones; and two nephews, Jimmie Hamilton and Russ Hawkins.

Pallbearers will be Doyle Smith, Steve Davis, Pake McEntire, Steve Brewer, Phillip Coxsey and Garrett Rose.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Hensley, Leon McClendon, J R Ricks, Wayne Sexton, Bill Staples, David Spillman, Cap Grantham, Frank Cuzalina, Cleon Auld, Buzz Friestad, Bob Sisco, Ray Brewer, Larry Meaders, Charlie Smith, John Fields, Charlie Rowland, Ben Murdaugh, and Dr. Paul Ledoux.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pittsburg County Youth Emergency Shelter, Hospice of McAlester or a charity of your choice.
