McALESTER — Marvin Paul Gray, 81, of Krebs, died Monday, May 5, 2014, at his home.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jeremy Lalli officiating Burial will be at Arpelar Cemetery. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born April 10, 1933, in McAlester, he was the son of Alma and Lena (Smith) Gray. He joined the United States Navy on Nov. 24, 1951, and served during the Korean War.

He married Pat Lalli Bailey on April 3, 1973, in Stigler. He worked at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary as a guard until his retirement in 1988, after 27 years of service.

Following retirement, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was known for his coon dogs, beagles and pigeons.

He made and sold Native American flutes and enjoyed genealogy, story-telling and collecting marbles.

He was of the Nazarene faith.

Survivors include his wife, Pat, of the home; daughters, Cheryl Allen, of McAlester, Zelina Gray-Forester, Maybank, Texas, and Kay Dalziel and husband, Craig, Dallas, Texas; stepchildren, Robert Bailey and wife, Debbie, of Kiowa, and Maggie Frye and husband, Ted, of Ada.

Also, grandchildren, Angel Cunningham, of McAlester, Cherrie Allen, of McAlester, Jacob Allen, of Erick, Laura Frye, St. Louis, Mo., Billy Forester and Greg Forester; several great-grandchildren.

And, brothers, Vernon Gray and wife, Susan, Gerald Gray, and Samuel Gray and wife, Dana, all of McAlester; sister, Shirley Saxon, of Tulsa, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Lena Gray; son, Paul Gray, granddaughter, Brianna Bailey; sisters, Lillian Kreimeier, Gladys Scott and Louise Tacket, and brother, Harold Gray.

Pallbearers will be Robert Bailey, Ted Frye, Randy Cunningham, Joey Dean Lalli, Vincent Lalli and Bob Castellion.

Honorary pallbearers will be Toy Wingo, Dave Cupp, Wincy Yount, Jordan Austin, John Roberts and Honey Phifer.
