James Aubrey Blanton, 52, of McAlester, died Monday, June 24, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bache Red Oak Cemetery in Bache with Pastor Philip Kopyscinski officiating. Burial will follow. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born Feb. 20, 1961, in Madera, Calif., he was the son of Robert Acie Blanton and Ivelyn (Skelton) Blanton. He grew up in Chowchilla, Calif. and graduated from White Rock High School in 1979. He moved from Chowchilla to McAlester in 1987.
He worked as a contractor, building homes for more than 10 years. He later went to work in the oilfield as a floor hand working his way up to a rig operator. He worked as a rig operator for several years until his retirement.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, golfing, playing loud music and pestering his family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Crissy Blanton, of the home; children, Amber McConnell and husband, Jeremy, of Holdenville, Renae LeBaron, Christopher Blanton, Preston Harrison and Haley Blanton, all of McAlester.
Also, brothers, Gary Blanton and wife, Tina, of McAlester, and Martyn Newsome, of England; sisters, Lori Shumway and husband, Ken, of McAlester, and Brenda Rafael and husband, Pat, of Eufaula.
And, grandchildren, Kelsey, Ryan and Kadyn McConnell, Rayne Johnson and Sean Blanton, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Shumway, Matt Shumway, Cody Blanton, Jeff Fry, Josh Johnson, Brandon Matlock and Eric Clifton.
