Viola C. “Vi” Potter, 74, of McAlester, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at her son’s home in McAlester.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Glen Meyers officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
She was born Dec. 26, 1938, in Weiser, Idaho. She grew up in South Dakota and had lived in McAlester most of her adult life.
She received her education as a licensed practical nurse through vocational school and had a career spanning more than 40 years. She had worked at St. Mary’s Hospital, General West Hospital and McAlester Regional Health Center and finished her career at Van Buren house, retiring just over a year ago.
She loved to go fishing and was an accomplished painter. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was active in church evangelism and outreach for new mothers and babies.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, John and Janet Peasha, of McAlester, Jim and Judy Potter, of McAlester, Thomas and Janet Potter, of Fort Gibson, and Jade and Cheryl Potter, of McAlester; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Johnnie and Elton Effinger, and an infant brother.
Pallbearers will be Thaxal Potter, Canaan Potter, Bobby Ives, Gerald Peasha, James Cregan and Zane Potter.
