Gerald Dee Rana Sr.

McALESTER — Gerald Dee Rana Sr., 84, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at his home.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Jones-Harkins Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Red Oak Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Randy Holmes officiating. Burial will be at LeFlore Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Harkins Funeral Home of Wilburton.

Born May 19, 1929, in Fanshawe, he was the son of Hoyt and Dovie (Holderfield) Rana. He attended Fanshawe School before joining the United States Army and serving in World War II.

He married Docia Alford on Oct. 1, 1949, in Red Oak. He moved to California and worked in shipping for American Pot Ash and Chemical Corporation/Kerr McGee from 1951 to 1969. He then returned to Oklahoma where he cattle ranched.

He was an outdoorsman, an avid forester and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Red Oak Assembly of God Church.

He was a lifetime member of Ridgecrest California Veterans of Foreign Wars, lifetime member of American Legion, and a member of Disabled American Veterans.

He served on the Watershed Committee for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Docia (Alford) Rana, of the home; son, Dr. Gerald Rana Jr. and wife, Linda, of Wilburton; grandchildren, Mark Rana and wife, Dawn, San Antonio, Texas, Sunny Rana, of Red Oak, and Michael Johnson and wife, Dana, of McAlester; great-grandchildren, Rana Denley, Quin Rana, Michael Johnson, Nicholas Denley, Hailey Johnson and Tori Mills; sister, Floy Osborn, Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Coy Rana, Inyokern, Calif., and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hoyt and Dovie Rana; daughter, Barbara Ann Rana, in 2005; brothers, Max Rana and J.T. Rana, and sisters, Ilene Newby and Patsy Rana.

Pallbearers will be Mark Rana, Roy Alford, Michael Johnson, Brandon Parks, Brittney Montgomery, Sharon Alford, Rodney Derryberry and Jimmy “Junior” Alford Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren, Rana Denley, Quinn Rana, Michael Johnson, Nicholas Denley, Hailey Johnson and Tori Mills.
