James Alvin Snell, 81, of Stigler (Tamaha), died March 30, 2014.
A military funeral honors service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014, at 10 a.m., at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014, at noon at the Veterans of Foreign War in Stigler. Fellowship and food to follow.
Born April 2, 1932, in McAlester. He was a proud member of First Baptist Church. He graduated from McAlester High School in 1951 served in the National Guard, U.S. Navy and the Army Reserves. He went to work at Southwestern Bell telephone in McAlester as an unallocated lineman in 1956. He enjoyed swimming, diving and going to the lake. He kept his grandsons during the summer. He helped build two archery ranges outside of McAlester. He took his children along on a lot of outdoor adventures. It was always safety first. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In 1969 He transferred to Tulsa with Southwestern Bell and retired in 1984 as an outside plant engineer. He was an Active member of Brazil Creek Ranch.
He was the father of Susan (Jeff) Cooper, Sally Matthews and Jim T. Snell, Jr. and their mother is Sally K. Clemens-Ryan; he was the son of the late Alvin and Mary Snell; brother of the late Elizabeth Eberhart; Uncle of Beth Holstead; Papa Jimbo to Jeff J. (Kristi) Cooper, Scott Cooper and Wally; and good friend to so many.
