McALESTER — F.J. Morrow, 93, of Kiowa, died Sunday, March 16, 2014, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home. 

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holdenville Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Earl Scroggins officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born March 15, 1921, in Hulsey, he was the son of Charles Edward Morrow and Jessie Pearl (Sanders) Morrow. 

He married Katherine Lenora Stelter on June 6, 1942, and they had two children. She preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 1984.

He later married LaWanda (Arthur) Scott on Sept. 15, 1984, in Kiowa.

He was drafted into the United States Army in 1942. He served in World War II and fought in the Pacific Theater. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Holdenville. He worked as a carpenter until his retirement in 1984. He was a notable craftsman.

He enjoyed wood-working, gardening, camping, dancing and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a retired volunteer firefighter of Holdenville. 

Survivors include his wife, LaWanda Morrow, of the home; children, Linda Shurley, of Holdenville, and Tony Morrow and wife, Jackie, of Gerty; stepchildren, Phillip Scott and wife, Caren, of Kiowa, Donna Harrington and husband, Virgil, Cassville, Mo., and Dennis Scott, of Kiowa; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Henry Stelter and wife, Sue, of Moore; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jessie Morrow; first wife, Lenora Morrow; brothers, Audie Morrow and Grafton Morrow; son-in-law, Richard “Dick” Shurley, and niece, Jessie Lou Proctor.

Pallbearers will be Wade Berry, Todd Berry, Justin Scott, Tad Morrow, Brian Jackson and Benjamin Harrington.
