Frank Joseph “Joe” Carey Jr., 66, of Denver, Colo., died Monday, June 10, 2013.
He will be buried in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. A family celebration of his life is planned for late summer in Denver. Arrangements are under the direction of All Veterans Funeral & Cremation of Denver.
Born Nov. 12. 1946, Boston, Mass., he was the oldest son of Frank and Rosamond Carey. In his early years, the family relocated to McAlester and he attended St. John’s School and high school, graduating in 1964.
Active in St. John’s Catholic Church, he excelled in athletics, playing basketball during the school year and baseball in the summers, with his father coaching from the dugout or the sidelines.
He attended Eastern Oklahoma State College, Oklahoma State University and Marymount College, earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
After completing his degree, he joined the United States Navy and was commissioned a lieutenant, receiving his navy wings. He served in Japan in aviation support.
He relocated to San Francisco, Calif. and entered an MBA Program at California State University. After completing his MBA he relocated to Washington, D.C., where he worked at H&R Block and later for the Department of Defense. He eventually relocated to Denver, which had been his home since 1987.
Since moving to Denver, he had worked for H&R Block, done tax returns for a variety of clients and volunteered for a variety of community organizations.
Survivors include his partner, Nancy Rons, of the home; daughters, Christie Mora and Jessica Loy; brother and family, Jim, Cindy, Eliza Carey and Jennifer Agee; sisters and families, Carol Carey and Paige and Whitney Sharp, and Pat and Frank Simons, Greg, Jill, Jared and Johnny Hazeldine and Eric, Katie, Finley, and Drew Hazeldine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rosamond Carey, and grandparents, Joseph and Florence McQueen, and Frank and Helen Carey.
