Homer Cantrell

McALESTER — Homer Cantrell, of McAlester, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with Kenneth Sherrill officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by  Robert B. Thomas VFW Post No. 1098. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Feb. 4, 1929, in Carbon, he was the son of Charlie and Margaret Callie (Wade) Cantrell. He lived all of his life in Pittsburg County and married Charlotte Manschreck in 1953, in Poteau.

He was a rancher and a member of Pittsburg County Cattlemen’s Association. He was also a member of Harrison-Powers American Legion Post No. 79 and Robert B. Thomas Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1098.

After serving in the Korean War, he returned to McAlester and worked for Hatter Feed Mill as a long distance truck driver. He also worked at McAlester Stockyards and, in 1974, became the ranch foreman for Harper Cattle Company until he retired.

He was an avid team roper, Dallas Cowboy and Texas Ranger fan. He loved watching his kids and grandkids rodeo and play various sports.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Cantrell, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Jack Wiseman, of McAlester; one son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Cindy Cantrell, of Oklahoma City; grandchildren and spouses, Colby and Nicole Stufflebean, of McAlester, Jordan and Brittney Wiseman, of Union City, Connor and Kimberly Cantrell, Denver, Colo., Mallory Cantrell, of Oklahoma City, and B.J. and DeDe Wiseman, Kilgore, Texas.

Also, great-grandchildren, Taylor Stufflebean, Alexis Stufflebean, Jade Wiseman, Stormi Lebus, Tyler Spears, Taryn Tipton, Sierra Wiseman and Slate Wiseman; great-great-granddaughter, Jaclyn Lebus; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Loretta Cantrell, Dale and Linda Cantrell and Dennis and Dena Cantrell; sister and brother-in-law, Gale and Dale Painter; brothers-in-law, Dr. Chris Manschreck and Jim Malone; sisters-in-law, Jonnye and Buddy Workman, and Lou and Eddie Harper, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Butch Cantrell; two sisters, Wilma Tate and June Browne, and granddaughter, Jackualine Wiseman.

 Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, Wade Cantrell, Fred Workman, Justin Thompson, Buddy Malone, Gene Tate and David Browne.
