Helen Marie Evans

McALESTER — Helen Marie Evans, 78, of McAlester, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, in Tulsa.

Family and friends visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with Jamie Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will be at Hugh Low Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Nov. 2, 1934, in Krebs, she was the daughter of Joe and Nellie May (Patty) Painter. She attended school in California as a small child and returned to McAlester in 1948, completing her education in McAlester.

She married Tom Evans on Oct. 14, 1950, in McAlester.  After marriage the family resided for a time in Texas. She had been a resident of McAlester since 1957.

She worked outside the home at Seamprufe and for the Department of Corrections in McAlester and she was self employed as a tax preparer for 18 years.

She was a member of Friendship Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Tom Evans, of the home; five sons, Tommy Evans, of Clayton, Hank Evans, of McAlester, Terry and wife, Charlotte Evans, of McAlester, Ben and wife, Karen Evans, of Newcastle, and Bill and wife Kim Evans, of Edmond.

Also, one brother, Clearence (Peck) and wife, Linda Painter, of Krebs; two sisters, Ronnie and husband, C.J. Beardon, of Bache, and Loretta Cotter, of Eufaula; 12 grandchildren, Jason Evans, Garrett Evans, Carter Evans, Jenny Evans, Rachel Evans, Staci Evans, Saylor Evans, Megan Smiddy, Shawn Evans, Luke Evans, Austin Evans and Cayden Evans, and one great-granddaughter, Morgan Evans.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Johnny, Jody and Marvin Painter, and one sister, Lorene Conner.

Pallbearers will be family, Tommy Evans, Hank Evans, Terry Evans, Ben Evans, Bill Evans and Jason Evans.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, Garrett Evans, Shawn Evans, Cater Evans, Jenny Evans, Rachel Evans, Staci Evans, Saylor Evans and Megan Smiddy.
