W.C. Wallace Jr.

McALESTER — W.C. Wallace Jr., 91, of the Haywood community, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at his home.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with Dub Brown officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Dec. 12, 1921, in Featherston, he was the son of William Curtis and Clara (Bassett) Wallace. He was educated in Quinton and graduated from Quinton High School. After high school he attended college for a time. He married Montice Ingram on May 29, 1943, in McAlester.

He entered the United States Army in 1943 and served a short enlistment during World War II.

He returned to Featherston after his service time and in 1958 the family relocated to Haywood, where he was engaged in farming and ranching. He also worked at the United States Army Ammunition Plant, retiring after 25 years of service.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of McAlester. He enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, horseback riding and his cattle.

Survivors include his wife, Montice Wallace, of the home; one daughter, Kathy Smith, of Haywood; one son, Curt Wallace and fiancé, Stephanie Short, of McAlester; one sister, Ellen Ogden, of Quinton.

Also, three grandchildren, Misty and husband, Geary Reeves, of Arpelar, Monica Hartsfield, of  Haywood, and Tyler Wallace, of McAlester; four great-grandchildren, Randy and Jimmy Reeves, of Arpelar, and December and Dalton Hartsfield, of Haywood, and special family friends, John and Joann Lalli, of Haywood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dale Wallace; son-in-law, Randy Smith; three sisters, Esther Wallace, Tressa Noble and Flossa Park, and a brother, Cecil Wallace.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Lalli, Phillip Lalli, Roger Gibson, Johnny Gibson, Glenn Ogden and Wayne Ogden.

  • Alyce Yvonne Knight Lerblance

    Alyce Yvonne Knight Lerblance was born on November 21, 1923, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, to Fred C. and Letha Mae Knight.  She was the fourth of seven children born to Fred and Letha Knight.  Alyce grew up in Wilburton and graduated with the class of 1941 and was a graduate of Eastern State A & M in Wilburton.
