McALESTER — Betty Alice Parker, 70, of McAlester, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at New Hope Retirement and Care Center.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ash Creek Cemetery with John Shirley officiating. Burial will be at Ash Creek Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born Nov. 25, 1942, in Levelland, Texas, she was the daughter of Ray G. “Ted” and Ruby Thelma (Johnson) Smith. Her family moved to the Haywood community where she was raised and received her education. She was a graduate of Haywood High School Class of 1961.

She married Charley Parker in April 1981. She worked as a nurse’s aide at McAlester General West and St. Mary’s, as well as, supported the family as a homemaker.

She and her husband continued to make Pittsburg County their home. Her husband preceded her in death in 1997.

She had been a resident of New Hope Retirement and Care Center since 2009.

She enjoyed fishing, gardening and working in her flower beds. She was a past member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary.

Survivors include daughters, Rebecca Whitlow, of Crowder, and Ramona Allen and her husband, Jack, of Canadian; grandchildren, Steven Shaffer, of McAlester, Donald Allen, of Canadian, and Audrey Whitlow, of Crowder.

Also, great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Shaffer, of McAlester; sister, Sharon Sparks, Arlington, Texas; nephew, Lance Sparks, Arlington, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Parker, in 1997; her parents, Ray G. “Ted” Smith and Ruby Thelma (Johnson) Smith, and a grandson, Dustin Shaffer.
