Wanda Lou (Smith) Chaney

McALESTER — Wanda Lou (Smith) Chaney, 75, of Hartshorne, died Friday, March 29, 2013, at Walnut Grove Living Center.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elmwood Cemetery Pavilion in Hartshorne. Rev. Phil Lay will officiate. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne.

She was born June 25, 1937 in Hartshorne to Boss and Violet (Hulsey) Smith. She grew up in Haileyville where she attended school. In 1956, she moved with her husband and son to Houston, Texas and worked as a receptionist. Wanda moved back to Hartshorne in 1966 where she worked at various jobs until she was employed by the Oklahoma Tax Commission in Oklahoma City in 1984. After retirement in 1999, she established a home in Hartshorne. She married Arthur “J.R.” Chaney on December 7, 1999, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Many thanks to Dr. Carol Gambrill for her wonderful care and Heartland Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Boss and Violet Smith; grandfather, Jerry Smith; brother, Tommy Smith; sister, Tooti Anderson; brother-in-law, Butch Davidson.

She is survived by her husband Arthur “J.R.” Chaney; sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael and Gwen Haskins, and Chris Watkins; grandson and spouse, James and Angela Haskins; great-grandson, Jaxon Haskins; step-son and spouse, Leeroy and Shasron Chaney; step-daughter, Linda Costello; nephew, Steve and Tara Davidson; great-niece, Kensey; great-nephew, Seth Davidson; special brother-in-law, Tommy Anderson; brother-in-law, Truman and Jenetha Chaney; aunt and uncle, Jettie and Tomis Hopper; and any step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Tommy Anderson, Albert Smith, Alfred “Smitty” Smith and Mitchell Lindsay. Honorary pallbearers are Francis Grivette, Jan Day, Shirley Matthews, Stephanie Smallwood, Daisy Richards, Gretta Stephenson, Betty Rose and George Bishop.
