Janie Trueblood

McALESTER — Janie Trueblood, 72, of Hartshorne, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at Cornerstone Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Clint Pope.

Services are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home, Hartshorne.

Born Aug. 20, 1941, in Fort Smith, Ark., she was the daughter of James Franklin and Jewel (Bibbs) Leonard.

She grew up in Hartshorne and graduated from Hartshorne High School.

She married Perry Trueblood on Dec. 20, 1958, in Hartshorne, and except for a short time in McCurtain, lived in Hartshorne all of her life.

She worked as a payroll clerk at Oklahoma Aerotronics  for a number of years before opening the Smokehouse Restaurant in Hartshorne. After that, she opened the Cottage Flower Shop, in Hartshorne. She finished her working career at North American Rockwell.

She served for many years on the Hartshorne Public Schools Board of Education, and was the first woman on that board.

She was also the first woman to seek election to the post of Hartshorne Chief of Police.

She was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by her husband, Perry Trueblood, of the home; daughter, Valerie Presley and husband, Mike Bassett, of Hartshorne; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Dana Trueblood, of Coweta, and Kevin and Jessica Trueblood, of Wagoner; 11 grandchildren, Jayme Grant, Brandon Trueblood, Ashley Jowers, Amos Trueblood, Perry Trueblood, Dani Trueblood, Shelby Trueblood, Aaron Trueblood, Morgan Bassett, Shalen Presley and Cody Johnson; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Debbie Greer and husband, James, of Wagoner; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Ronald Trueblood; her parents; and two brothers, Benny and Jerry Leonard.

    Alyce Yvonne Knight Lerblance was born on November 21, 1923, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, to Fred C. and Letha Mae Knight.  She was the fourth of seven children born to Fred and Letha Knight.  Alyce grew up in Wilburton and graduated with the class of 1941 and was a graduate of Eastern State A & M in Wilburton.

She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
