Alfred William ‘Bill’ Kinkead, Jr.

McALESTER — U.S. Army Lt. Col. Alfred William “Bill” Kinkead Jr., ret., 75, of McAlester, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at his home.

A committal service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Masonic Cemetery, McAlester, with military honors provided by the U.S. Army.

A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, officiated by Dr. Tom Murray.

Services are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory of McAlester.

Born Sept. 26, 1938, in McAlester, he was the son of Alfred William and Mable (Main) Kinkead, Sr.

He attended Oklahoma Military Academy during his last two years of high school and first two years of college.

He graduated from Northeastern State University in 1961.

He retired in 1982 from the U.S. Army, after 22 years of service.

He served as a supply and service management officer, civil affairs officer, in tactical intelligence, as an operations and plans officer, cannon and field artillery officer and as an advisor.

He served in the special forces in Vietnam Nam and lived in Japan and Germany before returning to the United States.

He worked as a rancher and a businessman.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

He married Karen Scott on Oct. 8, 2005, in McAlester.

He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.

He is survived by wife, Karen Kinkead, of the home; a son, Will Kinkead and wife, Kathy, of Norman; daughters, Kim Kinkead Smith, of McAlester, and Sheri Kinkead, of Tulsa; grandchildren, Luke Kinkead and Rebecca Kinkead, of Norman, and Ryan Smith and Ian Smith, of Tulsa; a special cousin, Beth McClain, of McAlester; step-children, David Freeland and wife, Lynette, of Jenks, Dayna Burnett, and husband, Ed, of Cumming, Ga., Kara Howland and husband, Michael, of Oxford, Miss.; nine step-grandchildren, Michael Burnett, Matthew Burnett, Meghan Burnett, Jordan Freeland Springer, Blaine Freeland, Nick Howland, Emily Howland, Ashley Stroup Heather and Tyler Stroup; a great-grandchild, Tatum Lynn Springer; and numerous other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred William and Mable Kinkead.

Memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop No. 2 at the First Presbyterian Church or the McAlester Scottish Rite Temple Restoration Fund.
