Wayne Reese

McALESTER — Wayne Reese, 87, of McAlester, died Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Epic Medical Center, in Eufaula.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Bishop Funeral Service.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. W. Lee “Dub” Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery.       

Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

Born August 17, 1926, in Milburn, son of Ed and Lura (Rogers) Reese. He attended Con-8 Public Schools near Roosevelt. After graduating, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country for two years in the South Pacific during World War II with the amphibious forces.

He married Zula Long on May 27, 1950 in Hobart. They had four children.

He worked for Mid-West Steel in Amarillo, Texas. He then worked for Meeco Marinas in McAlester as field superintendent for 22 years. After retiring in 1992, he and his son, Brent, started their own Marina contracting business, Recon Service, Inc., in McAlester. He has since worked every day for 21 years, running the day to day operations, as well as, working on jobs. His work was his joy.

He was a member of the McAlester First Baptist Church. He had served as Master of South McAlester Lodge No. 96 three times and Master of North McAlester Lodge No. 9. He was also a 32nd degree member of the McAlester Scottish Rite.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Zula Reese, of the home; sons, Roger Reese, of Kansas, Okla., and Brent Reese, of McAlester; sisters, Ann Crossland and Clell “Pete” Young, of San Diego, Calif.; brother, Max Reese, and wife, Betty, of Mountain View; grandchildren, Natalie George, and husband, Clinton, of Waco, Texas, Kristin Stires, and husband, David, of Lawton, Justin Todd, and wife, Hope, of Austin, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Reese; mother, Lura (Rogers) Reese; daughters, Jana Lynn Reese and Vickie Diane Todd, and her husband, Gary.

    Alyce Yvonne Knight Lerblance was born on November 21, 1923, in Pittsburg, Oklahoma, to Fred C. and Letha Mae Knight.  She was the fourth of seven children born to Fred and Letha Knight.  Alyce grew up in Wilburton and graduated with the class of 1941 and was a graduate of Eastern State A & M in Wilburton.

She moved to Edmond, OK, two months ago in order to be closer to her sons and family members. Bette was born on the family farm near Washington, OK, on March 11, 1930.
