Kenneth Charles “Kenny” Burns, 61, of McAlester, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at McAlester Regional Health Center.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. James Crowson officiating. Burial will be at McCarty Cemetery in Coalgate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
Born Dec. 12, 1951, in Coalgate, he was the son of Kenneth D. and Gloria Dean (Manis) Burns. He grew up in Coalgate, graduating from high school there in 1970. He then attended Oklahoma State Technology School, where he received a degree in heat and air. He also attended Rose State College.
He worked in the maintenance department at Oklahoma State Penitentiary. He owned and operated a heat and air business in McAlester for a number of years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching livestock shows.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Burns, of the home; daughter, Amy Pettigrew, of Coalgate; son, Brett Burns and wife, Melissa, of Coalgate; son, Bobby Oxford and wife, Carla, of McAlester; daughter, Cindy Keith and husband, Lee, Fort Riley, Kan.; daughter, Joann Greenwood and husband, Keith, Bakersfield, Calif.
Also, grandchildren, Alicen, Zach, Darby, Emily, Sam, Patrick, Katelyn, Cheyanne, Makayla, Vanessa, Chad, Charlie, Brent and Sarah; sisters, Joy Williams and husband, Cap, of Non, and Karen Lee, of Springer; special cousin, Bobby Burns and wife, Gayle, of Coalgate, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-daughter, Cheri Oxford.
