McALESTER — Johnny H. Williams, 73, of Hartshorne, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, in Hartshorne.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brumley-Mills Chapel in Hartshorne with the Rev. Jerry Grammar officiating. Burial will be at Bache-Red Oak Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Oklahoma State Penitentiary Honor Guard. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne.

Born May 21, 1940, in Hartshorne, he was the son of Mark and Gladine (McCullar) Williams. He grew up in Haileyville and Dow, graduating from Haileyville High School. He then received his associate degree from Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton.

He married Bea Templeton on Aug. 25, 1963. They lived in Oklahoma City until returning in 1966. They lived briefly in Arizona before settling in Hartshorne.

He worked in the grocery business at Roy’s in Wilburton, Ray’s IGA in McAlester and others.

He then worked as a correctional officer at Oklahoma State Penitentiary until his retirement.

He also served in the United States Air Force.

He was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Haileyville.

Survivors include his wife, Bea, Williams, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Lorri L. and Rob Roettgers, Pasadena, Texas; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lowell E. “Buddy” and Melinda Sandefur, of Hartshorne, Johnny L. Williams, Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Tommy H. and Cindy Williams, McKinney, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother,  Benny D. Williams, of Hartshorne, and one sister, Cecilia McCullar, of McAlester.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Smith; mother, Gladine Volturo; father, Mark Williams; stepfather, Paul Volturo; stepmother, Gladys Williams, and brothers, Frank and Jerry Williams.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Morgan, Mark McCullar, Daniel Sandefur, Ryan Williams, Cody Williams and Darren Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Wilson, Elmo Collins, Bill McCullar, Donnie Scott and OSP Correctional Officers.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, Edgewood United Methodist Church in Hartshorne, or Heartland Hospice.
