Earve 'Earl' Kelley Herandy

McALESTER — Earve “Earl” Kelley Herandy, 86 of McAlester, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Solara Hospital in Shawnee.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel. Jeff Gardner will officiate. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors by the VFW, Robert B. Thomas, Post No. 1098.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home.

He was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Eufaula to George Wallace Herandy and Ethel May (Davis) Herandy. He married Dixie Ramona Durant on Sept. 26, 1956. Earl joined the military in 1943 and served during World War II as a Code Talker. He was a member of the VFW and Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, repairing mowers, bikes and spending time with family.

He is survived by his two sons, Jonathan Herandy and Cindy, of McAlester, and Pete Herandy, of McAlester; nine daughters, Mary Short and James, of Stuart, Mona Thomason and A.J., of Stuart, Rosa Crone and Charles, of Atoka, Lisa Rockey, of Oklahoma City, Seqayah Scott and Neal, of McAlester, Treasa Herandy and Hosea, of Scipio, Twanah Ogle and Jim, of Tulsa, and Laquita Diann, of Tahlequah and Treasa Malone, of Oklahoma City; sister, Mary Pratt, of Texas; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Ramona; parents; siblings; four grandsons, Thomas Williams, Joey Herandy, Art Whiteshield and James Lee Short; and three son-in-laws, Richard Rocky, Pappy Scott and Bob Evans.

Pallbearers are James Crone, Jesse Old, A.J. Thomason, Casey Myers, George Herandy, and Jace Wooley.

Honorary pallbearers are Charles Crone, James Short, Frank “Buddy” Short, Nacho Pratt and grandchildren.
