James Edward Henderson

McALESTER — James Edward Henderson, 67, of Oklahoma City, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at the Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at  Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in Hartshorne. Rev. Grover C. Walker will officiate. Interment will follow at Elm Park Cemetery in Hartshorne.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne.

He was born on Nov. 7, 1945 in McAlester.  He grew up in Hartshorne and graduated from Hartshorne High School. James was athletic growing up and played football for Hartshorne High School and won a football scholarship to Eastern State College, where he was recognized for his outstanding abilities.  He also boxed locally.   He moved to McAlester where he raised his 3 sons and was a steady figure in all their activities, as well as being an active supporter of the McAlester Boys Club, where he coached several little league teams.  He moved to Edmond in 1989 where he lived until his death.   In his early years he worked at Oklahoma Aerotronics as a mechanic before joining United Parcel Service as a feeder driver until his retirement.  While he was in high school he worked for Dr. A. B. Luckett each day after school and on weekends to help support his family.  

He was survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Judy Henderson of Edmond and their children Kyle and Gabby, Steven and Becky Henderson of Edmond and their son, Cayden Matthew Henderson of Edmond; brothers and sisters, Gloria Lee, Leo Thompson, Jann Henderson, Mitchell Henderson, Kaye Gatson, Frank Henderson, Jr., Robert Henderson, Vernita Henderson, Stephanie Henderson; mother of his children, Leota Henderson of Edmond and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Diane, Frances and Willie.

Pallbears will be David Henderson, Steven Henderson, Matthew Henderson, Leo Thompson, Robert Henderson and Frank Henderson. Honorary pallbearers are William Webber, Kevin Patton, Marc Patton, Kent Patton and Mitchell Henderson.
