McALESTER — The Pittsburg County commissioners approved the dissolution of a rural water district on Monday.

The commissioners met for a regular meeting at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

During the meeting the commissioners voted unanimously to approve the dissolution of Rural Water District 4.

Rural Water District 1 in Longtown will take over the area which belonged District 4, according to District 2 Commissioner Kevin Smith.

“This is a real good project for the community and we appreciate the work that was done on this,” Smith said.

Smith said Rural Water District 1 will have a different board than District 4, once the annexation is complete.

Also during Monday’s meeting, the commissioners approved a resolution to advertise for bids on the installation of a 3,500 gallon water tank for the Haileyville Volunteer Fire Department.

The bid opening will be Dec. 9.

Also attending Monday’s meeting was District 1 Commissioner Gene Rogers and District 3 Commissioner Trent Myers.

Pittsburg County commissioners meet Mondays at 9 a.m. in the commissioner’s conference room at the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

The meetings are open to the public.
