Don Wooten

McALESTER — Don Wooten, 81, of McAlester, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of McAlester with Dr. Tim Russell and Mitch Arteberry officiating. Military honors will be provided by Robert B. Thomas Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1098. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.

Born Feb. 25, 1932, in Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., he was the son of Norvell and Myrtle (Miller) Wooten. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

He married Frances Skillern on Dec. 24, 1969, in Florence, Ala. They lived in Phoenix from 1972 until 1989 and later moved to McAlester in 1996.

He enjoyed crappie fishing and hunting mushrooms.

He was a Mason, Shriner and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of McAlester.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Wooten, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Brian Keith Wooten, of McAlester, Hugh Douglas and Rosie Wooten, of Canadian, and Donald Jr. and Jerrie Ann Wooten, Collinwood, Tenn.

Also, daughters and sons-in-law, Donita and Orbie Ray, Waynesboro, Tenn., Donna and Rick Ray, Red Boiling Springs, and Susan Pope, Collinwood.

And, grandchildren and spouses, Brandon Wooten, Rachelle and Jeremy Lott, Briley Wooten, Starr Wooten, Jessica Decker, Gavin Wooten, Cody Ray, Dustin Ray, Derick Ray, Keri Wooten, Katie Crowder, Kristen Wooten, Brooke Pope and Kyle Pope.

And, great-grandchildren, Bryson Baker, Bishop Crowder, Benton Crowder, Katie Lott, Dylan Lott, Charles Lott, Stetson Wooten, Brionna Wooten, Jonathan Wooten, J.J. Wooten, Ansleigh Jones, Makenlee Pope, Ella Ray and Willow Ray.

And, one brother, Harold Wooten, Hendersonville, Tenn.; numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends, Melissa and Brian Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norvell and Myrtle Wooten; daughter, Leann Dunlap; infant daughter, Juanita Wooten; grandson, Douglas Wooten; sister, Ruth Mabry, and brothers, Clifton, Paul and Roger Wooten.

Pallbearers will be Tom Braswell, Joe Stone, Dave Franks, Jerry Richardson, Dr. Brad Luckett and Glen Stone.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wallace Durant and Thundercreek Senior Golf Association.
