McALESTER — Patsy Diane Nixon, 67, of Eufaula, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Little Coweta Baptist Church in Eufaula. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory of Eufaula.

Sadie Bess Thomas

Sadie Bess Thomas, 91, of McAlester, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Mitchell Manor in McAlester.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Service.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Jamie Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will be at Indianola Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born April 6, 1921, in Crowder, she was the daughter of R.C. “Dick” Blanscett and Nancy (Robinson) Blanscett. She grew up in the McAlester area.

She married Joseph “Joe” Bess on March 5, 1940, and they had four sons.

She worked as a seamstress for Seamprufe in McAlester for a number of years, retiring in 1972.

Following her career, she went back to school at Vo-Tech. where she received her General Education Development Diploma at the age of 66. She also attained her certification as a nurse’s aid and was employed by Bell’s Nursing Home for a time.

After her husband preceded her in death in 1978, she married Henry Thomas on Oct. 10, 1992, and he preceded her in death in 1998.

She then moved to Duncan to be with her son and daughter-in-law. She was able to make new friends and enjoyed volunteering at the Compassion Center with their church.

She had been a resident of Mitchell Manor for the past couple of years. She was a longtime member of Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church of McAlester.

Survivors include one son, Leon Bess and his wife, Kathryan, of Chouteau; stepdaughters, Betty Wall, of Lubbock, Texas, and Patricia Collins, of Levelland, Texas.

Also, grandchildren, Deborah Olandese, of Tulsa, Kenneth Olandese, of Claremore, Jeannette Olandese, of McAlester, David Olandese, of Tiawah, Joey Bess, of Oklahoma City, Deanna Altiamirano, of Fort Smith, Ark., Misty Bess, of McAlester, Jody Bess, of McAlester, Ricky Bess, of McAlester, and Chasity Wedlow, of Hartshorne, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, R.C. “Dick” Blanscett and Nancy (Robinson) Blanscett; husband, Joe Bess; sons; Ray, Billy and Sam Bess; husband, Henry Thomas; sisters, Ada Blanscett, Madie Shropshire, Della Mann and Melvin Thomas, and granddaughter, Raelene Bess.

Pallbearers will be Steve Carter, David Choate, Leroy Conner, Bob Smith, Toy Wingo and Terry Plunkett.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church members.
