McALESTER — Mary L. Carlton, 81, of Hartshorne, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at her home.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Main and Oklahoma Church of Christ with Red Coleman officiating. Burial will be at Carlton  Family Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born Dec. 23, 1931, in Denton, Texas, she was the daughter of John Orville and Odessa Gore Lester. She attended schools in Denton and later would attend Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton.

She married Bill Carlton on April 4, 1952, in Denton, and in 1959 they moved to Latimer County. She worked at Rockwell for 26 years on the line and in the machine shop.

She was a member of Haileyville Church of Christ for years and, in her later years, was a member of The Main and Oklahoma Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Carlton, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Debby Carlton, of McAlester; four grandchildren, Shala Peterson, Nick Carlton, Lacey Carlton and Dustin Sennett; five great-grandchildren, Carlton Peterson, Maison Peterson, Murphy Peterson, Kaytlen Sennett and Tyler Sennett; sister-in-law, Gail Carlton; and daughter-in-law, Vicki Stewart, Piggott, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Carlton; a brother, Jack Lester; a sister, Eva Jo Watson, and a longtime friend, Virginia Ramsey.

Pallbearers will be Mike Carlton, Clifton Kuykendall, Nick Carlton, Joey Kuykendall, Dustin Sennett and Carlton Peterson.
